Trusted visual intelligence for experts working in complex environments
Seamless aims to develop AI-based tools that can support experts and operators working in complex situations with large amounts of fragmented and rapidly changing data. By combining interactive digital twins, multimodal AI, and trusted visual intelligence, the project explores new ways to help people analyse, understand, and communicate complex events together with AI-supported systems.
The project develops immersive and explainable digital environments where investigators, analysts, crisis responders, and decision-makers can interact with dynamic reconstructions of real-world situations across space and time. Rather than replacing human expertise, Seamless focuses on human-centred collaboration where experts remain in control while AI assists with connecting information, identifying patterns, reconstructing events, and supporting reasoning in situations where data may be incomplete, uncertain, or difficult to interpret.
Seamless combines advanced visualisation, multimodal data fusion, interactive 3D environments, and specialised AI models into a seamless environment where information from imagery, video, sensor data, maps, geolocation, text, and biological traces can be integrated into coherent and traceable digital reconstructions. The goal is not only to visualise what a scene looked like, but to support understanding of how events unfolded, how different pieces of information relate to each other, and how alternative scenarios can be explored in a transparent and explainable way.
The project builds on more than a decade of Swedish research and innovation in digital forensics, visualisation, AI, gaming technologies, and digital twins, including earlier work on interactive multimodal crime-scene environments and serious gaming for investigation and training.
Potential application areas include crime investigation, crisis response, civil protection, defence, training, operational planning, and public communication. At its core, Seamless is about helping people understand complexity by combining human expertise with trustworthy AI and interactive digital twins in support of analysis, collaboration, preparedness, and decision-making.
